Compassionate Greetings, It has been a long while since my last visit to this community, and the recent activity is encouraging to this human heart. The dissemination of Buddhist philosophy and the Dhamma is exactly what this world of confusion needs right now.. indeed, has needed. Learning not to need. I would like to suggest a book that may provide some insight into "Where to start"... THE SACRED PATH OF THE WARRIOR by Chögyam Trungpa I believe it is best to start at the beginning.. and that means dealing with our existance in the moment ~ the NOW. This is why the practice of 'Breathing Meditation' is so important, as our breath is always happening in the current moment. Blessings and Peace ~ With Metta ~ ~ Rider Kaba-Aye

Thank you both for your help, I've been meditating twice a day on my breathing, as instructed on that website, for the last three days, and each time I've felt happily refreshed. I'm guessing that the point of focusing on my breathing is to help develop concentration. I do have another question though, now that I've become aware of how even the simple act of breathing is much deeper and complicated than I thought, how I am meant to meditate on things such as thoughts and emotions, or the way to help others? Unlike breathing, they are intangible, and their workings so complex that I don't have any idea where to point my focus.
